21-Year-Old Student Crowned VC King Of Poker
A 21-year-old student playing in his first major tournament has won one of the biggest prizes in British poker – the VC King Of Poker 2006.
Simon Pettet, a student at the University of Chester, began playing poker only a year before he was crowned VC King of Poker 2006 at the star-studded VC Poker tournament at the Café de Paris in London this month.
Leicester-born Pettet now has the opportunity to launch his professional poker career because part of his prize for winning the tournament was an opportunity to play on the World Series Of Poker, the most prestigious professional poker championship in the world. Its highlight is the Tournament Of Champions, which decides the best Texas Hold ’Em player in the world.
Pettet said: “I am incredibly proud to have won something as prestigious as the VC King Of Poker tournament so soon in my poker career. It is a great honour and the opportunity to play in the WSOP is fantastic.”
Pettet, who took home £5,000 for winning the tournament, began playing poker online in May 2005. Shortly afterwards he joined his university’s poker society before starting a regular game with his friends. The VC King Of Poker was his first major tournament.
He said: “Playing online was brilliant training for tournament play. The main lesson I learned is not to get over-confident when things are going well and not to let it get to you when it’s going badly. You have to play each hand as it comes and forget about any good or bad luck you had on the previous one.”
Pettet was watched at the 2006 King of Poker Final by beauties including Rebecca Loos, Ashly Rae and Atomic Kitten Liz MacLarnon, who had played a charity game earlier in the evening. Also playing were footballer Teddy Sheringham and his beautiful girlfriend Danielle Lloyd, who is Miss Great Britain 2006.
For winning the tournament, Pettet picked up a crown and sceptre, the £5,000 cash prize, a WSOP tournament package and a memory to cherish for a lifetime. He said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the whole night and winning the title was just an added bonus. It was one of the best nights of my life!”
The glitzy King Of Poker event continues a momentous May for VCPoker.com, who recently announced the debut of Pokerbet and Roulette games within their popular online cardroom. The development marks a recent trend within online poker to offer ever more gaming choices to the burgeoning clientele currently flocking to online poker sites.
Simon Pettet is available for interview on request.
